TEAM International recently co-developed iSBMNH, a free application available on the iTunes store. Now users can visit the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History in the comfort of their home.

iSBNature allows museum enthusiasts to access the museum’s website, displays multiple exhibits including butterflies alive and provides a detailed map of the museum. The following features are available for customer review: Santa Barbara’s famous Rattle Snake, Butterflies Alive, Musetube and the Ty Warner Sea Center. Musetube takes users to the museum link on YouTube and the rattle snake button takes them to the snake world and help discover different types of rattle snakes. Butterflies Alive is one of the current exhibitsat the museum, which includes pictures, names of various species and a brief history ofbutterflies along with an audio tour.

RFID tags are more functional and flexible than barcodes. While barcodes are cheaper and getting traction in the U.S. with the QR format, the potential for RFID tags is even greater. Apple knows this and if rumors are to believed, RFID will be integrated into the iPhone 4G later this year.

According to a number of believable blog reports, RFID is set to be a part of the as yet unannounced iPhone 4G. Apple holds a patent for a touch screen RFID tag reader and is said to be testing an RFID-enabled iPhone currently. So RFID could be a feature of the iPhone 4G as soon as Spring 2010.

To some the Canadian Museum of Civilization CMC might be an odd place to experience the power of the latest mobile technology. But a new initiative at the museum in Gatineau, Que. takes advantage of the iPhone and iPod Touch — and pretty soon BlackBerrys and Android phones as well.

Just a week before Christmas, the CMC became the first museum in Canada, and among a handful in the world, to provide patrons access to audio and image enhanced information and tours via the iPhone and iPod Touch. The CMC Mobile Application, which the museum developed with Tristan Interactive, an Ottawa-based mobile app firm, can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store.
