Welcome to the Audio-Video Barn!

The Audio-Video Barn is full of stories about Illinois agriculture. It contains audio and video recordings of more than 130 oral-history interviews with people involved in agriculture and rural life in Illinois. It was produced by the Illinois State Museum’s Oral History of Illinois Agriculture OHIA project.
One of the goals of the project is to serve as a model for the presentation of indexed audio and video interviews on the Web. No longer will Web users have to listen only to full interviews to find the information they want. They can search by topic, person, or location to find clips and segments containing that information.
This method will make it easier for students and teachers to use oral interviews as primary sources in the classroom. Students doing research papers can access primary information about a topic across several or many interviewees, compare and contrast them, verify by comparing the content with other factual sources, and create a report or other research object.
The materials (audio files, video files, photographs) on this Website are downloadable and can be used to create digital stories about agricultural history in Illinois, changes in social history, changes in public policy, and other related subjects for educational use.
